British Cartoon Network Mistakenly Airs Bookmaker Ad
The Cartoon Network made a huge faux pas recently when it mistakenly aired an ad for UK bookmaker Coral during a broadcast on the children’s television channel despite strict rules that govern the airing of gambling ads on television.
The ad that is controversial aired on Turner Broadcasting’s Boomerang channel along with the Cartoon Network, sparking outrage as the broadcast code strictly prohibits the marketing of gambling ‘in or next to programs commissioned for, principally directed at, or more likely to appeal particularly to audiences underneath the age of 18 years,’ therefore minds had been positively tumbling when the broadcast clearly broke these rules.
The station may have maybe been forgiven for their ‘serious breach’ associated with rules had the advertising aired just once, however the promotion was broadcast nine times on a Saturday morning back in May of the year, which will be primetime viewing for young ones kick-starting some cartoon antics to their weekend.
The Advertising Standards Agency says that Turner Broadcasting has ‘apologized unreservedly’ for the hiccup, and it has explained that the ad was broadcast, repeatedly, in error.
